The Hugh L. Carey Tunnel (formerly Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel) project included: replacement of the tunnel’s entire traffic control and communications systems, lighting system, new LED light fixtures and emergency way-finding safety lights, tunnel wall tiles, ceiling finishes, catwalks and duct banks, drainage pump and fire line systems; concrete pavement, environmental clean-up due to residual salt, oil and other contaminants swept into the tunnel with Sandy flood waters; rehabilitation of tunnel curbs and gutters, repaving of tunnel roadways, rehabilitation of the Brooklyn toll plaza to improve traffic flow.
